Cannock Chase Community Gardeners Grow Volunteer Group
Inspired by all those gardening programmes and don’t know where to start?
August 8th – 14th is National Allotment week and here in Cannock Chase we invite you to see how you could take your first steps into getting those green fingers, even if you don’t have a garden yourself.
On Wednesday 10th and Saturday 13th August – 10-12pm, the Cannock Stadium and Park Allotments in Lovatt Place, Cannock, opens its gates to welcome newcomers who are looking to join its social and seed sewing opportunities!
The allotment here is very different to those elsewhere in the district in that it has both private and community plots. The community organisations work together and make the most of its on- site community room, poly tunnel and newly built shed funded by the National Lottery Community Fund, with thanks to its lottery players. This fund has also brought in the talent of a specialist team to offer weekly inclusive sessions, who offer their knowledge and expertise, as part of a project called Chase Up, promoting engagement in our free and green outdoor spaces.
This allotment is a hidden gem and gives residents the opportunity to join in the activities led by Friends of Cannock Stadium and Park, Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles and Cannock Chase Council, to nurture and get close to nature. Even if you’re already talented, you could even set up your own session, using the space and work with the partners and residents, whilst taking in its spectacular view of the district.
Gardening and growing provides a wealth of health and wellbeing benefits and doing this together with others can even give you a new lease of life.
So, why not pop along enjoy a coffee and a cake next week to see if it’s your cup of tea! Whether it be joining its Wednesday or Saturday community sessions, or simply coming along as a small group of friends to help plant or potter, this relaxing social opportunity will make a difference to the community and to yourself.
