Environmental Policy

Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles (IHL) is committed to working in partnership with stakeholders & local partners to ensure a reduction of the impact the charity has on the environment whilst striving to deliver environmental performances that it can be proud of.

At Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles we recognise that many of its activities provide an important opportunity to prevent pollution, protect and improve the environment in which we work and serve. IHL is focussed on managing and reducing the environmental impacts of our own operations and that of our suppliers and attributes a high priority to the development and use of materials, products, processes and services that seek to reduce environmental damage and waste.

In particular throughout our charity and in all our activities, in conjunction with our partners, we will:

  • Utilise, wherever economically viable, the efficient use of energy, water and materials, the sustainable use of renewable resources and the reduction of adverse environmental impacts
  • Contribute to the conservation and protection of the natural environment.
  • Adopt the key principles of the Environment Act 2021 and related legislation and ensure integration within the IHL Environmental Management System
  • Search for, propose and, wherever reasonably practicable,
    – adopt low-polluting technologies, processes, and practices, employing environmentally sound waste management techniques such as: source reduction and improved specification,
    – adopt circular economy practices such as re-use, re-cycle, increased use of refuse derived fuel (RDF) and supporting waste to energy including anaerobic digestion to reduce landfill.
    – Work with stakeholders & industry experts, to identify and install new technologies to reduce utility consumption
  • Operate processes that comply with all relevant legislation and similar requirements such as those prescribed in The Environment Act 2021, the Environmental Protection Act 1990: Part 1 (OR Pollution Prevention and Control Act 1999), and observe the requirements laid down by The Environment Agency. All major incidents of environmental pollution involving Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles or its sub-contractors will be investigated and action taken to mitigate its effects and prevent any re-occurrence. Any incident will be reported promptly as prescribed.
  • Expect our partners, sub-contractors and major suppliers to share our concern for the environment, share their environmental policies with us, and to work with us in identifying and applying best practice.
  • Empower and encourage our staff to make informed environmental choices by providing relevant information, instruction and training and offering affordable & economically viable alternatives
  • Regularly measure and be transparent of key aspects of our environmental performance and periodically report progress against Green Financial benchmarks and targets to all stakeholders: partners, customers, employees, and the wider community.
  • Ensure any new Environmentally Sustainable strategies are investigated thoroughly to avoid “Greenwashing”, and procedures are shared with partners as best practice.
  • Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles will strive to continuously improve its management of the environment.
Who is this policy for?

This policy extends to all employees and workers of Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles including casual workers, volunteers, consultants, contractors and agency workers.

It is extended to our partners as a communication on how we operate, how we value and respect the environment and the standards we expect from each other.

It is the collective responsibility of all IHL staff to follow the principles outlined within this policy.
