More than just a gym!

More than just a gym!

December saw some great successes for our Wellbeing Team based at Selby Leisure Centre.

At IHL we pride ourselves on delivering and supporting projects that benefit our communities.

In 2017, a survey by Plan International UK reported that 1 in 10 girls had been unable to afford period products; 1 in 7 had to ask to borrow products from a friend due to affordability issues; and 1 in 10 had to improvise. These issues have only been exacerbated during the COVID-19 pandemic and cost of living crisis.

The Selby District Period Project exists to help with the issue of period poverty directly in our community. They do so by providing anyone and everyone access to completely free period products, discreetly and without judgement. The team are working with The Selby District Period Project to increase the number of boxes in our area and have introduced them at both Selby and Tadcaster Leisure Centre.

The team have also partnered with The Clothing Bank to ensure that local children had a Christmas gift of new clothing. Selby Leisure Centre was the IHL donation point for this fantastic local cause and we’re very pleased to say that, with our members generosity, we collected 14 outfits, 30 pairs of pyjamas and 4 packs of underwear!

The team were also putting together the final touches for the return of our free Wellbeing Walk from Selby Leisure Centre. This is a fantastic opportunity to get some fresh air, gentle exercise, and a good chat too! This session takes place every Wednesday at 10am from January 18th. To book your free place visit Leisure Hub here or contact our friendly reception team on 01757 213758.

The team have also introduced Falls Prevention exercises classes in Selby and Tadcaster. Commencing 9th January, this class involves seated exercise (with optional standing) to reduce risk of falls. This class focuses on building strength, maintaining, or improving aerobic fitness, mobility, flexibility, co-ordination and improving circulation.

Sessions take place each week on the dates and times below. This class is free for IHL members or from just £2.50 for non members. If you have any friends or family who may benefit from this class, please do make sure to let them know! To book your place visit Leisure Hub here or contact our friendly reception team on 01757 213758.

Here’s to an even healthier and happier 2023!
