Cannock Chase Community Films Aim to Combat Loneliness

To support people experiencing loneliness and isolation across the District, the Community Team at Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles has been working with Cannock Chase Council, partners and community groups on a series of films to promote local activities.

The project ‘Treasured Times’ is funded by the ‘Know Your Neighbourhood’ initiative, which is part of the National Lottery Community Fund and covers 27 disadvantaged areas across England.

The series of short films showcase various community activities and aim to “break down the barriers to participation,” revealing what happens behind the doors of local groups and illustrating the benefits of joining these activities.

As part of the campaign, a large mapping activity has taken place that details a wider range of offerings that have been collated into ‘Treasured Times’ folders. These folders are filled with information on local activities across the District. They provide essential details on a wide range of offerings, including arts and crafts, libraries, outdoor recreation, physical activity and community groups and will be distributed at key points in the community.

During October, through the Cannock Chase Can initiative, the different films will be showcased each week for ‘Cannock Chase Can Overcoming Loneliness Month’ and will be found on both Cannock Chase Can and Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles Community Facebook page.

Lisa Shephard, Head of Wellbeing at Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles said: “We believe that community activities are vital for enhancing social connections and improving overall wellbeing. By promoting these opportunities, we can make a tangible difference in the lives of those who may be feeling isolated and lonely.’

The ‘Treasured Times’ project will continue to update and provide information until March 2025, with resources available at www.cannockchasecan.co.uk. The Community Team will also be running a ‘Treasured Times tour’ across the District, helping people find out about the activities available. Please follow both Facebook pages to find out more.
