Museum of Cannock Chase

Welcome to the Museum of Cannock Chase

Go back and experience some of the greatest moments from our community’s past times. Once home to the Valley Colliery, the museum’s grounds were a training pit where thousands of men started their careers in the local coal industry. The training pit is no longer. Instead, we have over 30 acres of green space and scenery on the edge of Cannock Chase and near the Hednesford Hills Nature Reserve. The hills are one of the last areas of heathland in the UK.

Our collections tell the story of the people and history of Cannock Chase. Our collection is ever-growing and adding interest, as we kindly receive donations from local people, and have done since we first opened in 1989.

During your visit you can treat yourself to a snack, cake and drink in our Coffee Shop, or bring a picnic to eat in the beautiful grounds and walk it off over Hednesford Hills.

There is much more here at the Museum of Cannock Chase waiting to be explored. We run a packed programme of family events and children’s workshops. Plus, an award-winning education service. Other activities you will find at our museum include:
