Glorious Sunshine and Smiles All Round for Eighth Annual Walk for Eileen
A glorious sunny day on the Chase saw 78 people raise much needed funds as part of the eighth annual Walk for Eileen.
Held at the end of August, participants gathered in memory of Eileen Pitcher – who passed away in 2017 – and to raise funds for local support group MASE – Monthly Alzheimer’s Support Evenings.
It was also a chance for many to enjoy a healthy walk and socialise as well!
Organised by Eileen’s husband Bob and supported by the Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles’ (IHL) Chase Fit programme, the day was a huge success.
Bob said: “It’s been another fantastic Walk for Eileen, raising some much needed funds for a worthy cause. I regularly took Elieen to MASE not only because it provided invaluable support for Eileen but also for me, offering strength and companionship during a challenging time.”
Over the years, generous attendees have helped raise more than £21,000 for MASE where every volunteer has personal experience as a former caregiver or professional in the caregiving field.
This year’s six mile and one mile walks began following a short speech by Dame Amanda Milling and a pre-walk warm-up session from Colin Ball.
Eddie from Burntwood Community First Responders was also on hand demonstrating CPR along with Guy Etchells and Gez Hill from IHL to support the walks.
Guy Etchells, Outdoor Coordinator, said: “What an amazing day. The weather was glorious and so was the company. This walk is a wonderful way to raise funds for a fantastic group but also a way to socialise and be healthy.
“Bob is a true inspiration and long may these walks continue in the years ahead and raise much needed money in the process.”
Family members travelled from as far afield as Essex and North Wales to take part.
